Civil War ID Shield John Bernhardt 40th NYV

Availability: 1 available

This is a Civil War silver ID shield for

John Bernhardt, Co. A, 40th New York

Volunteers. Bernhardt enlisted at 21.

Mustered in as a private Co. H, 55th NYV.

Transferred in 1862 to Co. H, 38th NYV.

He joined Co. A of the Mozart Regiment

in June 1863. He was captured on May 5,

1864 at the Wilderness VA and escaped.

He returned to duty and again was

captured. This time on Aug 20, 1864 at

Weldon Railroad. Paroled and mustered

out in 1865. The shield has some bending

but displays great. About 1 1/8 of an inch

in diameter. Made of silver. No pin on the

back. A nice ID pin with a killer history.
