A pair of Civil War Id'd CDVs of James Throop Co. A, 16th Iowa Infantry. One is a full standing view. It is ink Id'd on the back-Jas S. Throop, Co. A. 16th Iowa Vet Vol Infy 17th AC for Aunt Susan Norris. The other is a seated view. It has a pencil ID on the reverse-James S. Throop, Lyons Iowa, Co. A 16th Iowa Vol I, 17 AC, Fanny Norris, Meadville PA. Records show that James was a resident of Lyons, IA. He was 18 years old when he enlisted as a private on 10/17/1861. He was captured and listed as a POW at Iuka, MS on 9/19/1862. He was promoted to Corporal in 1/17/1864. He is also listed as a POW at Atlanta, GA on 7/22/1864. He mustered out on 7/19/1865 at Louisville KY. Also included is a cdv of a young lady that came with the two Throop photos. It is not id'd but has Meadville PA back mark. Could be Fanny Norris.
